The Zoom whitening method:
Before every whitening treatment, we perform an evaluation. The purpose of this is to identify the current color of your teeth, along with the causes of your discoloring or stains. We are also checking to conditions or problems that do not respond to whitening treatments. Restorations, tooth damage, or permanent stains are resistant to whitening and will require alternative treatments.
Once we determine you are a candidate for teeth whitening, we will perform a professional cleaning. This will remove stains and tartar and provide a clean surface to allow the whitening gel to adhere evenly.
Preparation for the whitening procedure begins with coating the lips in a thick cream to keep them hydrated. A retractor will be placed to keep the lips and tongue from touching the teeth. Your gums will then be covered to protect them from the gel, leaving only the teeth exposed.
We will the mix the whitening formula, which is based upon your desired level of whiteness. It is evenly applied to the teeth and then a special light will be used to activate the gel. This process is repeated for a total of three applications.
Once the sessions are complete, the gel is cleaned from the teeth and all protective measures are removed. From start to finish, the whitening procedure can be completed in approximately an hour.
It is important to remember that your newly whitened smile is still susceptible to stains. Take caution when consuming dark colored foods and beverages such as red wine, coffee, tea, or pasta sauce. If you do consume these, try to brush your teeth or rinse afterward to avoid staining.
