Initial Consultation
During your first appointment, you will receive a complete dental examination. Dr. Vines will be looking at the areas of your gums that are missing teeth and will be evaluating the health of your mouth. Before you are candidate for dentures, you will need to be free of gum disease or tooth decay.
During this appointment, you will also select your dentures. We will help guide you to find teeth that are the right size, shape, and color to look natural in your mouth.
Impressions
Impressions are then taken of the tissue gum ridges to make a mold for your dentures. There is little discomfort in the impression process.
Measurements
Dr. Vines will take measurements of the following:
- Vertical dimension
- Distance between upper and lower jaw
- Relationship between your upper and lower jaw
- Your bite
Initial try on
The upper front six teeth are the ones that are most prominent in your mouth. These teeth are the first to be set in wax and subsequently tried on to check for fit and appearance. We will evaluate the teeth to make sure they are the appropriate length and are at the right angle to support your lips. Any adjustments that are needed can be made at this point.
Final fitting
Once all of the teeth are set in wax, you are able to try them before they are permanently set in the hard acrylic. You will be looking for comfort, appearance, and bite. Many of our patients will bring a friend or family member with them to help.
After this final fitting, you will receive your dentures along with instructions on cleaning them, a cup, and a brush.
